PURPOSE:To obtain easily the titled low-molecular weight compound useful as a surface active agent, adhesive, coating compound etc., by reacting maleic anhydride with an amine compound, and reacting the prepared reaction product with isobutylene. CONSTITUTION:1mol maleic anhydride is reacted with preferably 0.05-1.5mol amine compound (e.g., propylamine, cyclobutylamine, etc.). The prepared reaction product is copolymerized with preferably 0.5-3 times as much as molar amounts of isobutylene in the presence of a catalyst such as benzoyl peroxide, etc., to give the aimed low-molecular weight compound.
