PURPOSE:To attain detection of errors according to patterns by providing an error detecting circuit which detects errors in a speed changing mode without using any error correction code and therefore attaining the error detection even in a variable speed reproduction mode. CONSTITUTION:The digital video signals reset to a continuous time array are supplied to an LPF 32 and a subtractor circuit 33 from an input terminal 31. The output of the LPF 32 is supplied to a BPF 36 as well as to the circuit 33, and the output of the circuit 33 is supplied to a comparator 34. The LPF 32 transmits the intra-band component of the video signal and therefore the intra-band video signal is delivered from the LPF 32. The circuit 33 subtracts the out-band signal of the video signal from the input signal and delivers said out-band signal. Then the error detection is carried out by the output of the comparator 34. The pattern detecting output is supplied to the cascade of registers 38-41, and the pattern change information are obtained among stages of registers 38-41 for each sample.
