An apparatus for receiving a transport and storage container (1), which can be filled with metal workpieces and is open at the top, consists of a housing (2), closed on all sides and arranged on the floor, consisting of sound-insulating boards with a door arranged in one side wall (3) and, incorporated in the upper region of a side wall (3) adjacent thereto, a rectangular insertion aperture (6). The lower edge (17) of the insertion aperture (6) is adjoined by a sound-absorbing chute (8) extending above the transport container (1), and the free space (13) between the chute (8) and the inner top surface (12) of the housing (2) is closed by two sound-absorbing flaps (14, 15) suspended pivotably at a distance from each other. <IMAGE>
