PURPOSE:A chelate resin which can adsorb and recover a trivial amount of metallic ions and is resistant to hydrolysis, comprising a polyethyleneimine polymer compound in which the nitrogen atoms have specified 2-hydroxybenzoyl group substituents. CONSTITUTION:A chelate resin comprising a polyethyleneimine polymer compound in which the nitrogen atoms have 2-hydroxybenzoyl group substituents of formula I (wherein X is H, hydroxyl or nitro). This resin can be obtained by suspending a crosslinked polyethyleneimine polymer compound in a solvent (preferably, dioxane or tetrahydrofuran) and reacting the suspended polymer with an active 2-hydroxybenzoic acid derivative of formula II (wherein X is H, hydroxyl or nitro and Y is chlorine, azido, phenyl or substituted phenyl) (at about 40-100 deg.C for about 1-48hr).
