The holder secures a pen or pencil to a finger or fingertip, to allow writing with the latter without the aid of the other fingers. It can have a plate whose inside surface fits against the fingernail and is of roughly the same size and shape, with a ridge against which the nail edge bears when pressure is exerted in the direction of the pen. There is a groove adjacent to the ridge in which the edge fits at other times.
