PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time without reducing a recognition ratio by constituting a line width recognizing device with an original picture memory part, a reduced picture memory part, a reduced picture line width recognizing part, an original picture line width recognizing part and a final line width recognizing part. CONSTITUTION:The reduced picture memory part 2 stores the ORed m-number of original picture elements (longitudinal direction) X m-number of picture elements (lateral direction) from picture elements on the picture of the original picture memory part 1 where binary picture information inputted through a facsimile, scanner, etc., is stored. Based on the picture elements on the reduced picture, a line segment processing part 3 extracts start and the end points of the line segment and the intersection point of horizontal and vertical lines as a node. With the use of the reduced picture, the reduced picture line width recognizing part 4 obtains the line width between respective nodes, and inputs it to a line width information part 7. In terms of the part whose line width cannot be obtained from the reduced picture, the line width is recognized 5 from its original picture, and inputted to the memory part 7. In terms of the part still non-decided, the distance between nodes before and after the part concerned is noticed, and stored 7 as a thick line only when it is thick. Thus the line width is efficiently recognized. |
