Mortar mixtures such as are used for plastering wall surfaces, for producing cement screeds or the like, are conventionally prepared from a pre-mixed dry material with the addition of water in a mixing chamber of a continuously or batchwise operating mixer using corresponding mixing tools. In order to increase the content of air pores of the mortar mixture, it is provided to add air or gas to it during the mixing operation, expediently using a pressure higher than that prevailing in the respective mixing chamber. In a simple and meterable manner, any amount of air pores in mortar mixtures can be obtained, providing, in addition to a higher elasticity of the mortar and better thermal insulation, a range of other practical, technical and economic advantages.
