If hot-water reservoirs are cathodically protected against corrosion, for example by sacrificial anodes, then pitting corrosion damage frequently occurs on electrical heating elements which are installed in an insulated manner. This is prevented when metals which can be anodically passivated, such as titanium, niobium or tantalum, are used for the sleeve tube of the electrical heating element, the sleeve tube also being acted on anodically by electrical connection to the positive terminal of a DC source.
