For local data networks, either costly processor systems are nowadays used as stations, or even specialised VLSI controllers are used. These are offered at relatively high prices, especially for the "Ethernet" standard. The invention is based on the object of using cost-effective, commercially available components for a Local Area Network. The object is achieved by the use of a simpler floppy disk or Winchester disk controller.
