PURPOSE:To improve the strength and traveling durability and to increase the amount of a lubricant impregnated by using far infrared rays as a heat source for both prebaking and after-baking and making the prebaking temp. lower than the after- baking temp. when a magnetic coating material is applied to a nonmagnetic substrate, prebaked, and then after-baked while surface processing is carried out. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic coating material is applied to a nonmagnetic substrate for a disk and passed through prebaking and after-baking stages to form a magnetic layer. At this time, far infrared rays are used as a heat source for both the prebaking and after-baking stages, and the temp. in the prebaking stage is kept lower than the temp. in the after-baking stage so as to prevent the deterioration of a binder before the magnetic coating material is cross-linked. The amount of a lubricant impregnated is increased and the resulting magnetic layer has high hardness, so that damage of the magnetic layer during sliding along a magnetic head is prevented. Even when the lubricant on the surface is consumed by use for a long period. the adsorbed lubricant oozes from voids and maintains the lubricity. Thus, continuous baking with far infrared rays can be carried out in a shortened baking time, and a magnetic disk having superior durability is obtd.
