PURPOSE:To obtain a membrane separation apparatus reduced in primary side pressure loss and having large capacity, by receiving a plurality of hollow yarn membrane elements, each of which is constituted by arranging hollow yarn membranes around a porous core pipe in a layered form, in one container in parallel. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of hollow yarn membrane elements 1 are arranged in a container 4 and the part 10 communicated with an opening end part 5 of each element 1, the part 9 communicated with the outer peripheral surface of a hollow yarn membrane layer 3 wound around a core pipe 2 of each element 1 and the part 8 communicated with a supply pipe 4 of each element 1 are divided by partition walls 6, 7. In operation, for example, air is supplied to the core pipe 2 from a primary fluid inlet 11 through the supply pipe 4 of the container 14. Supplied air passes through the membrane layer of each layer to be exhausted from a primary fluid outlet 12 and, during this time, a part of a transmitted primary fluid (e.g., oxygen) gathers to the hollow part of the membranes and taken out to the outside of the container from a secondary fluid outlet 13 through the opening end part 5.
