PRODUCTION OF LOW TENSILE STRENGTH AND HIGH TOUGHNESS WIRE

PURPOSE:To produce a low tensile strength and high toughness wire with lessened manpower and economized energy by cooling a hot rolled steel material to decrease the temp. then subjecting the steel material to finish rolling under adequate cooling with a finishing block mill and cooling slowly and adequately the rolled material. CONSTITUTION:The rolling steel material 11 which is preliminarily cooled by >=1 units of precoolers 1 disposed before the finishing block mill 2 to decrease the temp. thereof is passed through the mill 2 in a process for production of the hot rolled wire. Intra-finishing block coolers 3, 3- are disposed behind respective oval calibers 9 and round calibers 10 in said mill and the generation of working heat in the finish rolling is suppressed by adjusting valves 12 provided to pipings 13 from a cooling water supplying device 8 to maintain the final finishing temp. at <=Ar3-20 deg.C. The wire is then slowly cooled down to 640 deg.C at a cooling rate of <=2.0 deg.C/sec by a cooler 4 and thereafter the wire is developed onto spiral ring shapes on a conveyor 7 by a laying head 5 and is conveyed in a slow cooling cover 6, by which a low tensile strength and high-toughness wire is obtd.
