PT--81506 A The known cpd. 1,8-diethyl 1,3,4,9-tetrahydro pyrane (3,4-b) indole 1-acetic acid of formula (V) is obtd. by a new process comprising (a) reacting 7-ethyl 3-(2-hydroxy ethyl) 2-propionyl indole (I) with p-toluene sulphonyl chloride in presence of a base, pref. pyridine to obtain the deriv. (II); (b) subjecting this to a Reformatsky reaction with zinc and ethyl bromo-acetate to give the intermediate (III); (c) reacting with a base, pref. NaOH, in DMSO soln. to give intermediate (IV); and (d) hydrolysing to the corresp. acid (V).
