The chair is provided with coupling elements, which make it possible to join chairs together which are placed alongside one another to form a row. The coupling elements include two clips (2, 21) which are articulated to the insides of the frames (1, 11) so as to be pivotable about their bearings (3, 31). One of the two clips (2) is provided with a gripper element (22). The unbroken lines in the drawing show the two coupling elements which are connected to one another and hold two chairs together. The thin, dotted lines show the positions of the clips (2, 21) when they are not in use and when they are then situated beneath the sitting surface (S1) or (S2) respectively. A spring (4, 41) holds the clips in both positions. <IMAGE>
