PURPOSE:To prevent gear creak at the time of retreat by providing an engaging mechanism which makes another forward step fork rod engage with a select lever and makes the rod move to the retreat step side by a predetermined distance when operating a retreat shift of a change lever of a speed change gear. CONSTITUTION:A gear shift mechanism consists of a striking rod 1, a select lever 2, fork rods 3-5 and a shift fork. A supporting unit 6 is provided on a bracket 4A of the fork rod 4, and an engaging mechanism 14 is constituted of a pin 7, a rod 9, a projection 12 and a spring 13. Therefore, engagement of another forward step fork rod and the select lever can be continued surely to a predetermined distance, and rotation of a counter shaft is surely be stopped, and gear creak is prevented.
