Pest organisms are combated by contacting the pest organisms, or a locus infested or liable to be infested with them, with 1, 1, 3, 3-tetrafluorotetrachloropropane and/or 1,1,3-trifluoropentachloropropane. The compounds may be in the form of a vapour or may be sprayed in liquid form and then allowed to vaporise. Textile materials may be so treated.
