<p>An optical communication system has a plurality of channels each provided with a serial data flow and an initial timing signal in response to parallel data and an E/A signal. An optical transmitter provides an optical output in response to the serial data flow and initial timing signals and an optical receiver receiving the optical output through an optical data path and provides a serial data flow therefrom. A parallel data flow is provided in response to the serial data flow from the optical receiver, and an on signal is generated upon receipt of timing signals. An E/A circuit receives the timing signals for selectively energizing an additional channel by generating a corresponding E/A signal for return communication upon receipt of the timing signals.</p> |
