NEW MATERIAL:The pyrazole derivative of formula I (X is H, halogen or 1-2C alkyl; Y is 1-2C alkyl; X and Y may together form a ring with a 3-4C methylene group; W is halogen; R is H or SO2CF3; Z is H, halogen or lower alkyl; n is 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:1-(2,4-Dimethyl-5-amino-phenyl)-3,4-tetramethylene-5-chloropyr azole. USE:A herbicide having extremely strong herbicidal activity and nevertheless, low phytotoxicity to crops. PREPARATION:The pyrazole derivative of formula I can be prepared e.g. by reducing the N-substituted pyrazole of formula II, and reacting the resultant compound of formula III with sulfonic acid halide of formula IV or sulfonic acid anhydride of formula V.
