PURPOSE:To obtain a mirror like surface having a good surface roughness efficiently in mirror like surface finishing using electro-chemical machining and grinding by setting the electrolytic current density and grinding speed in respective limited ranges. CONSTITUTION:A grinding wheel 3 having abrasive grains dispersed and fixed on nonwoven fabric is firmly secured to a grinding wheel rotating shaft 1. Rotation of the grinding wheel 3 causes mechanical grinding of a workpiece 4. At this time, electrolyte is supplied to the work surface of the workpiece 4 through a fluid port 5, and is energized with the positive electrode of the workpiece 4 and the negative electrode of a grinding wheel fixing disc 2. The electrolytic current density i is set in the range between 10-90A/cm<2> and the grinding speed is set above (5i+150)m/mm. This permits provision of mirror finished surface having a surface roughness Rmax better than 0.1 micrometer.
