PURPOSE:To enable the generation of an address based on a top address and reading of data by filing a top address in a font memory of each character to be printed and data for printing control into a text buffer sequentially. CONSTITUTION:When the first printing line of the first line is printed, (m-1)XX (No. of horizontal bytes) which is output from a latch is set at 0 by a signal from an address counter 12. m represents a sequence of printing line. If access to the first printing line is ended, a printer transmits a signal SOS indicating the start of printing a next line to the latch 21. The first character of the second printing line is added with X to (m-1)XX=0XX=0 which is output from the latch 21. Then the latch indicates 0+X=(0+1)=(0+1)X=1X in its output, an adder 20 shows an output of X+(k-1) and an adder 22 an output of An+X+(k-1). The top address An and byte line k-1 of each font are designated and the dot pattern of the second printing line is accessed. The whole dot pattern of a single line is read out by repeating said designation and access by Y, the vertical line number of the font.
