PURPOSE:To increase the adhesive force and strength of a non-magnetic substrate and magnetic layer and to provide an improvement in durability and decrease in the variance of characteristics by irradiating UV rays on the surface of the non-magnetic in an inert gas then forming the magnetic layer on such non-magnetic substrate. CONSTITUTION:The UV rays are irradiated in the inert gas on the non-magnetic substrate consisting of PE terephthalate, etc. to reform the surface thereof and further the magnetic layer is deposited and formed thereon by the conven tional method, by which the magnetic recording medium is completed. Gaseous N2, Ar, CO2, etc. are used for the inert gas. The blank material for the non- magnetic substrate is exemplified usually by polyester such as PE terephthalate and polyolefin such as PE and PP. The form of the non-magnetic substrate may be any of a film, sheet, disk, card, drum, etc. The considerable improve ment in the adhesive strength and force of the non-magnetic substrate and magnetic layer in a short period is thus made possible and the magnetic record ing medium having the excellent durability is manufactured.
