<p>PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance useful as a synthetic intermediate for a compound having violet-like fragrance, in high selectivity, by using an easily available inexpensive 2, 2-dialkyloxybutane as a raw material, and reacting the material with dehydrolinalool in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula III (one of the three bonds containing dotted line is single bond and the other two are double bonds) can be produced by reacting 1mol of dehydrolinalool of formula I with preferably about 1-10mol, especially about 1.1-2.0mol of the 2,2-dialkyloxybutane of formula II (R is lower alkyl) in the presence of an acid catalyst at about 100-200 deg.C, especially at 150-170 deg.C. The compound of formula II can be synthesized easily e.g. from methyl ethyl ketone and an alkyl orthoformate.</p> |
