In order to adapt slip control of an anti-skid brake system of an automotive vehicle, a control circuit comprises a friction coefficient (between tyres and road) identification circuit (31, 31'). Upon the unstabilisation i.e. lock-up tendency of a wheel the braking pressure control signals controlling the slip by actuating solenoid valves (36 to 41) are varied by means of the output signal of said circuit (31, 31') in dependence on the momentary deceleration (vR) of the fastest wheel and/or on the brake force or brake pressure and thus are adapted to the momentary friction coefficient, which in particular depends on the road condition. The fastest wheel would generally be a rear wheel and since generally front wheels lock before rear wheels, it may be sufficient to compare the velocities of rear wheels and to evaluate deceleration of the fastest rear wheel for the determination of friction coefficient. <IMAGE>
