The invention relates to an optical information recording and reproduction apparatus. It includes a processor intended to record, reproduce or erase the information on an optical disc 93, a disc-type detector 81 intended in particular to determine the diameter of the optical disc, and a controller 82 intended to control the processor's process parameters as a function of the output signal from the detector. The latter reads an item of information recorded in advance on the optical disc, which item of information determines the type of this disc.
