For the therapeutic treatment of blood and other endogenous or exogenous fluids and substances, the latter are irradiated in the round-pipe or oval-pipe capillary gap irradiation unit with UV light of a defined wavelength for the purpose of therapeutic use in human or veterinary medicine. In addition to the therapeutic effect, the design of this irradiation unit makes for simple use and permits cleaning and sterilisation. The simple design of the individual components makes maintenance, production and procurement of spare parts or repairs easy and unproblematical.
