摘要 PURPOSE:To enable a continuous operation to be performed for a long period of time without considerably lowering recording quality or recording performance, by a method wherein a temperature-compensating signal is impressed on a heating element of a thermal head so that the temperature of the element at the start of heating is fixed, temperature in the vicinity of the element is detected, and recording period is continuously varied to prevent the temperature from becoming excessively high. CONSTITUTION:An optimum recording period according to the temperature Ta of an ink sheet and the temperature Tb in the vicinity of the heating element is also written in a ROM98, and the period data read from the ROM98 is set on a counter in a line timing circuit 99. A line timing signal *LT outputted from the circuit 99 is determined in consideration of the completion of setting of a one-line amount of recording data (expected time) and the temperatures Ta, Tb, and has a period as represented by the curve. Accordingly, the recording period (y) is prolonged when the temperature (x) of a substrate of the thermal head or the like is raised, and stoppage of recording due to an excessive rise in temperature is prevented from occurring. A temperature-compensating signal generating circuit 93 outputs a signal for eliminating irregularities in the temperatures of each part of the thermal head after a predetermined lapse of time from the start of recording, and uniformizes the initial temperature of each part at the time of the next recording.
