PURPOSE:To improve efficiency by holding a board piece on a first conveyer with a first transferring holder, reciprocating it on a first polishing machine to carry out rough finishing, and equally holding and polishing it on a second transferring holder and a second polishing machine to polish for finishing. CONSTITUTION:A board piece, e.g., a microscope tissue-observing sample 1, which is carried in by a first conveyor 2, stops when it is detected by a photoelectric sensor 12. Then, it is held by a board-piece holding member 9 of a first transferring holder 4 by means of vacuum adsorption, and brought in pressure contact with the travelingly polishing belt 5a of a first polishing machine 5 while making a circular-arc movement to be roughly polished, and is placed on an intermediate table 11. And, then, it is equally held by the holding member 10 of a second transferring holder 6, slidingly brought in contact with a polishing belt 7a of a second polishing machine 7 to undergo polishing for finishing, and translocated on a second conveyer 8. Thereby, the efficiency of polishing operation can be improved while the degree of flatness of a polished surface can also be improved.
