PURPOSE:To attain superimposition of a desired picture on a display screen for a video signal reproduced from a magnetic tape by erasing a video signal already recorded on the tape subjected to video recording to record the desired picture signal. CONSTITUTION:A television signal from an antenna 101 is fed to a tuner 102 of a tuner section 100 and a television IF signal of a desired program is fed to an IF amplification detection circuit 103. The signal subjected to IF detection is fed to a recording and reproducing system 217 of a recording and reproducing section 200 from an input terminal 201. Further, a sound signal is inputted from an input terminal 202 and fed to an FM modulation circuit 215. A signal is recorded and reproduced in a recording and reproducing system 217 by the overlap recording system while a picture recorded already is not erased but superimposed. The video signal of the television signal is processed properly and recorded while being subjected to frequency multiplex with an FM sound signal in this case.
