PURPOSE:To carry out the precise centering, by detecting the deviation of the center of the part to be centered utilizing ultrasonic wave, processing the data, and correcting the deviation. CONSTITUTION:The high-frequency pulse generated by the transmitter 25 is transmitted to the piezoelectric transducer 14 through the circulator 26, and the generated plane ultrasonic wave is focused to the cavity surface of the lower mold 22 with the acoustic lens 27, the upper mold 20 and the molded article 17. The sonic wave reflected from the focus is converged to the lens 27 and inputted through the receiver 28 to the controlling circuit 29, and the focal length is calculated and stored in a memory. The lens 27 is traversed along a U-shaped orbit to detect the focal lengths from the surface of the lower mold 22 at four points. The scanned focal lengths are compared with each other with the circuit 29 to calculate the deviation between the axes of the molds 20 and 22. The deviation of the center can be corrected by shifting the axis of the lower mold with the shifting apparatus 23 until all the focal lengths coincide with each other.
