<p>An engine block comprises a camshaft casing upper part, which is reinforced by a separate camshaft casing lower part. An oil sump is arranged on an external wall of the lower part of the crankshaft casing. To ensure that lubricating oil from an upper region of the casing which has to be fed back into the oil sump is not picked up by the rotating engine parts, the lower part of the camshaft casing possesses a lubricating oil passage arranged in an attachment flange, leading between the outer casing wall and an inner casing wall. The inner casing wall is arranged as a semi-cylindrical shell running near the banjo contour of the connecting rods and forms a reinforcement connection to a further facing attachment flange of the camshaft casing lower part. The casing wall which separates the casing space from a space over the oil sump possesses, for its part, further passageways for conveying the lubricating oil away from the engine bearings, these passageways being preferably arranged tangentially.</p> |
