PURPOSE:To prevent malfunction of an automatic telephone answering set by a remote control signal sound recorded on the tape recorder thereof by muting the regenerating signal when the remote control signal or a similar signal is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a remote signal detecting means 5 detects a 1,470Hz remote signal on an internal signal line 3 thereof, the operation period of the signal is measured, and if the operation continues for 150mS, since there is the possibility that the signal is a start pulse, a mute signal is impressed to a muting means 16 to mute the regenerating signal from the tape recorder 8 and the timer is set on in order to count the muting period. In case when the remote control signal is shut off by the operation of the muting means 16, after 470mS passes, the muting signal is turned off, while in case the remote control signal is kept on for a period of 194.48mS, the signal is regarded as the remote control signal and data is taken in.
