PURPOSE:To attain image input of an object to be read of a large size with a small sized and low cost device by designing the titled device that an image input device main body runs automonously on a medium to be read and inputs an image on the medium to be read. CONSTITUTION:An image scanner 11 set to the upper left on paper 51 being an object to be read is moved at first in a direction 53 and when the scanner 11 reaches a point A, the scanner 11 is moved in a direction 54 until a point B apart by the width of the image sensor. Then the scanner is moved from the point B in a direction 56 and when the scanner reaches a point C, the scanner is moved up to a point D parted by the width of the image sensor in a direction 57. Then the scanner is moved in a direction 58 from the point D and the movement is repeated similarly till the lower right of the paper 51. The image is inputted only at the movement in the direction X, a microcomputer 43 reverses the input/output order of the input data at the movement in the leftwise direction and the data is transferred to a high-order device 40. Thus, the image input of a large-sized paper sheet is attained in this way.
