The gear machine has two gear wheels (14, 15) in external engagement which are supported in axially mobile bearing bodies (22 to 25). Formed on the sides of the bearing bodies (22 to 25) which face away from the gear wheel lateral faces there are bearing areas (35, 36) which bring the bearing bodies (22 to 25) into sealing contact with the gear wheel lateral faces. Formed on the sides of the bearing bodies (22 to 25) facing the gear wheel lateral faces there are recesses (40, 41, 44, 45) to which high pressure is applied and in which bearing areas are therefore likewise established which counteract those mentioned above. On this side, in the region between the root circles of the gear wheels (14, 15) and the shaft bores (18 to 21) of the bearing bodies (22 to 25), additional annular grooves (42) are formed which may communicate with the recesses (40, 41, 44, 45) which are under high pressure and to which pressure medium is applied. As a result, this region is always supplied with lubricating oil. The gear machine consequently operates at constant rotational speeds, and mechanical friction losses are substantially reduced. <IMAGE>
