<p>TITLE: Disk Memory Control System for Numerically Controlled Machines According to the present invention; a control unit for an equipment controller of a numerical control machine or data processing equipment requiring a sequence of data is disclosed. This control unit includes a memory means having a disk drive for receiving a floppy disk. A control means is provided for causing data to be read from the floppy disk and stored in a buffer memory means in preparation of transmission of such data to the equipment controller. The buffer memory is divided to allow data to be transferred to the equipment controller independent of data being transferred from the disk to the buffer memory. A display and manual data input means is operatively connected to the buffer memory and the control unit such that data can be transferred from the input terminal to the buffer memory or to the floppy disk. The buffer memory includes an outlet means for connection with the equipment controller and the overall control unit is such that the time necessary to transfer data from the control unit to the equipment controller is directly related to the data transfer characteristics of the buffer memory and the equipment controller. Data transferred from the floppy disk to the buffer memory occurs in anticipation of the requirement of such data by the equipment controller and is available essentially immediately when required by the equipment controller. such a control unit allows information to be read from the disk drive independent of the information being required by the equipment controller whereby the random access memory capability of the disk drive is fully utilized.</p> |
