PURPOSE:To prohibit the inflow of water with substantially no increase in outside diameter by coating directly a resin having excellent water shieldability on an optical fiber core. CONSTITUTION:A resin consisting essentially of vinylidene chloride is coated as a water shieldable resin 5 onto a silicon resin layer 3 of the optical fiber core. The thickness of the resin 5 may be about 20mum and there is substantially no increase in the outside diameter. Said resin may be coated on a nylon sheath 4 as well and may be coated on both the silicone resin layer 3 and the sheath 4.
