PURPOSE:To permit automatic high efficiency polishing by controlling the inclination amount of a guide pulley from the output signal of a sensor for detecting a distance up to both end faces of a polishing belt provided on both widthwise ends of a contact wheel to allow said wheel to coincide with the widthwise central of the belt. CONSTITUTION:An automatic control unit 70 provided with a gap difference calculating circuit 71 supplies the output signals of detected displacements L1, L2 to the input of said circuit 71, calculates the output signal difference L1-L2, controls a pressure regulating valve 72 of a hydraulic cylinder 69 such that the value L1-L2 is made 0 from the calculating result and inclines a guide pulley 25 in the opposite direction to the inclination of a polishing belt 20. Thus, the widthwise center of the polishing belt 20 is automatically controlled to coincide always with the widthwise center of a control wheel. Hence, the monitoring and adjusting operations of an operator monitoring and adjusting the deflection of polishing belt can be completely eliminated, and a work having a curved surface can be automatically polished with high efficiency. |
