PURPOSE:To compress a pattern information by dividing the pattern obtained by a scanning for every some unit, comparing a divided block with a scanning line immediately before it and transmitting an information of a change in a form of a flag. CONSTITUTION:In a white and black level electrical signal obtained from a photoelectric converting device 1, an information of one scanning line is set in buffers 4 and 6. A pattern registered as the newest information is set in a buffer 5. The block contents of the buffer 5 and that of the buffer 6 at the same position are logically calculated in a discriminating circuit 8 and an infor mation showing whether a change is found in it or not is successively stored in a flag memory 11. Then this flag information is set at the buffer 5 in a route shown by dotted lines from the flag memory 11, added before a pattern information and transmitted in the same line.
