PURPOSE:To assemble a head in a short period with high accuracy by coating active metal-contg. alloy paste on the surface of the magnetic head consisting essentially of Al2O3 and heating the same to a high temp. to melt and metallize the active metal-contg alloy then joining a flexure to the metallized surface by laser welding. CONSTITUTION:The paste of the alloy contg. the active metal such as Ti or Zr which reacts with Al2O3 at a high temp. is coated as the active metal on the surface of the magnetic head 1 consisting essentially of Al2O3 in the stage of joining the flexure 2 to the head 1. The head is then heated up to the temp. at which the paste melts in a non-oxidative atmosphere of gaseous H2, gaseous mixture composed of N2-N2 or the like or in a vacuum. The magnetic head is held for several minutes at said temp. to bring the Al2O3 and the alloy into reaction with each other and to form an intermediate layer 6 consisting of TiO3, ZrO2, etc. The upper layer is thus formed of the alloy layer 5'. The head is then cooled down to a room temp. and a laser beam 7 is irradiated to the metallic flexure 2 consisting of SUS, etc. to melt the alloy 5', thereby forming a united alloy phase 8. The magnetic head is thus assembled in the short period with the good accuracy.
