PURPOSE:To prevent an increase of a dark electric current of a solid-state image pickup element and to prevent the deterioration in a picture quality by installing a temperature detecting means at a tip part. CONSTITUTION:A temperature sensor 26 is installed at the tip of an endoscope main body 10, the tip is inserted into the body and a light source lamp will light up. The position illuminated by an illuminating light from here is picked up at a CCD 22, and a picture signal is displayed at a monitor device 14. On the other hand, the output of the temperature sensor 26 is supplied to a temperature detecting circuit 32, the output of the sensor 26 is a reference signal or above, and then, the detecting signal is generated, supplied to a video processor 36, automatically a stop 30 is controlled and the light quantity of the illuminating light which falls to a light guide 24 is decreased. Thus, the illuminating light quantity to communicate the light guide 24 is decreased, and the temperature rise of the tip part due to the heat from the illuminating light is stopped and the increase of the dark electric current of the CCD is prevented.
