PURPOSE:To obtain an original platen device whose opening/closing operation is easier, by making it possible to move an original retaining member in parallel after this member is turned at an certain angle or more. CONSTITUTION:A guide plate 7 is fixed to both side ends of the upper face of an enclosure 1 along the opening/closing direction of a frame body 3. A pin 6 is protruded from the frame body 3 and has such length that it can be slid to the outside of the guide plate 7. The position of an example of this invention is shown by solid lines in the figure, and the position of a conventional example is shown by broken lines in the figure. The figure shows that enough open space to place an original on a transparent plate 2 or observe the placing state is obtained without lifting, namely, opening an original retaining member A to a very high position in comparison with a conventional device.
