PURPOSE:1-(5-Methyl-2-furyl)-2,4-hexadiene is catalystically hydrogenated in the presence of a metal carbonyl and the resulting product is cyclized in the presence of an alkali to prepare title substance used as jasmine perfume. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I is catalytically hydrogenated in the presence of a metal carbonyl of formula II (M is Cr, Mo or W; arene is arene ligand; x is 1 or 2; y is integral number of 3-6; z is O or integral number of 1-3) or its arene complex compound at 130-230 deg.C and 2-60kg/cm<2> hydrogen pressure to form a compound of formula III, which is contacted with an acid catalyst in an aqueous polar organic solvent to open the ring. Finally the cyclization of the product is conducted in the presence of an alkali to prepare the objective compound of formula IV. Or the compound of formula I is ring opened in the same manner as above and then the product is cycled with an alkali to form the compound of formula V, which is catalytically hydrogenated in the presence of the compound of formula II to give the objective compound of formula IV. |
