A colour image reader for inputting data via a colour image into an electronic file or the like for the electrical processing of image information is specified. The image is read photoelectrically in order to obtain a number of analogue colour component signals which are then subjected to analogue processing and are finally converted into digital signals. This results in fast accurate reading of colour images, in which dark currents have no effect in the digital reading, whilst retaining a simple design.
