PURPOSE:To convert documents displayed in many kinds of alphabetic, numeric, and Kana (Japanese syllabary) characters to Japanese language documents by using a parameter file defining Japanese language converting methods, a Kanji (Chinese character) name file used as a dictionary, Kanji index file, and an intra-index constant file. CONSTITUTION:Data records are inputted onto a memory from an image file 1 of documents, which are displayed in alphabetic, numeric, and Kana characters, generated by an already provided system. When the input record is the last record, the processing of a Japanese language converting program A is terminated. If the input record is the first record, the document ID displayed on the input record is used as a key to find a parameter record. Each item on the parameter record is referred to recognize parts to be converted to the Japanese language of detail lines of documents. The first and intermediate input records are subjected to the Japanese language conversion processing; and first, it is discriminated whether the inputs record is an index line or not. If it is not an index line, a record equal to it is found from a Kanji file 3, and Japanese language items are set to parts to be converted to the Japanese language of an output record area to generate documents 7 displayed in the Japanese language.
