PURPOSE:To exclude substantially the irregularity of the quantity of light even from a one-array optical transmitter for image formation and form an image of high quality at low cost by providing a linear light shield member in an optical path. CONSTITUTION:Two linear masks 6 are supported on a support frame 7 nearby the image formation surface of a photosensitive drum 5 and arranged symmetrically about the center line of the optical path. Therefore, part of light passed through one array 4 is cut off by two linear masks 6. Further, when two linear masks 11 are provided at the side of an original surface, the linear masks 11 are slanted to a light source 3 to reduce the loss of the irradiation light preferably. Thus, even when the linear masks are provided nearby an object surface (original surface in this case), the permissible range of variance in the degree M of overlapping is widened and the irregularity DELTAI of the quantity of light is reduced sufficiently.
