Method for breaking up or destroying icebergs by the action of products brought onto the iceberg which are capable of causing the ice to melt locally; the product, most commonly consisting of salt NaCl, is used in the form of conglomerate blocks 1 comprising a hole at their centre by means of which the blocks are threaded on a cable 3 or an equivalent means enabling the blocks to be hauled into position on the iceberg.
