[Also in Division G2] The invention relates to asymmetrical methine dyes of the formula wherein R is an alkyl or aralkyl radical, L 1 is a methyl-methine group, L 2 is a methine group, L 3 is a methine or methyl-methine group, each of P and Q represents a CN, or COOR , group wherein R 7 is H or an alkyl radical or a -COR 8 radical wherein R 8 is an aryl radical or P and Q in the radical = CPQ represent the necessary atoms to complete a keto methylene nucleus, e.g. 5-isoxazalone, rhodanine or 5- pyrazolone, n is 1 or 2 and M+ is a cation. The trimethine dyes can be prepared by condensing a compound of the formula with a compound of formula wherein R 2 is alky], aralkyl, aryl or furyl, and the monomethine dyes can be prepared by condensing a compound of formula wherein Z is amino, substituted amino, hydroxy. R 1 S- or R 1 0- where R 1 is alkyl or an aralkyl radical and a compound of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is alkoxy, aralkoxy, aryloxy, furyloxy, amino or substituted amino. |
