Colour television receiver for front mounting

The cathode ray tube has a small radius (15) between the viewing screen (9) and the side walls of the tube. Typically the radius is kept to a value of 6mm. The viewing area of the screen is defined by the region over which a fluorescent coating is formed (11). In order to avoid optical distortion at the edges of the screen due to the edge curvature of the tube, a thin layer of aluminium is deposited over the radiused region. - When viewed from the front of the tube the aluminium is seen only as thin bounding line. The side walls of the tube are parallel to allow insertion into the receiver housing from the front.
