The invention relates to a flap valve which can be inserted between the flanges of a pipeline and which has a flow channel limiting an annular valve seat, as well as a valve-flap arrangement located in the flow channel and movable between a closed position and an open position, the flap having a circumferential sealing face which engages on the valve seat when the valve is closed and which can rotate through 90 DEG so that its plane is parallel to the axis of the flow channel when the flap is open. A valve tappet and device for the axial adjustment of the valve tappet of two coaxial valve-tappet orifices in the valve body are provided, and on the tappet there are two control mechanisms, the first of which serves for moving the valve flap up against the valve seat or lifting if off from the latter when the tappet moves axially, and the second of which serves for rotating the valve tappet through an angle of 90 DEG during a further axial movement. The valve-flap arrangement is held on the valve tappet in such a way that it can be moved in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the tappet, but not relative to the tappet.
