PURPOSE:To provide synthetic lubricating oil having very excellent oxidation stability, consisting of 2-t-amylnaphthalene. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene is reacted with an olefin such as 2-methyl-2-butene in the presence of an alkylating agent (e.g. activated clay) at 20-250 deg.C. Alternatively, naphthalene is reacted with t-amyl chloride in the presence of a Friedel- Crafts catalyst at 20-250 deg.C to obtain synthetic lubricating oil composed of 2-t-amylnaphthalene of the formula. Optionally, lubricating oil additives such as antioxidant, viscosity index improver, oiliness improver, corrosion inhibitor, emulsifier, etc. are added thereto. |
