<p>A customer information input system for a POS terminal (14) includes a portable input device (10) that has a magnetic card reader (24) for reading information from a card (86), a keyboard (16) for inputting customer identification data, a memory (74) for storing the information and the identification data, and a transmitter (42) for sending the information and the data in response to a request signal from the terminal (14). The system also includes a repeater device (12) connected to the POS terminal (14) for transferring the information and the identification data from the input device (10) when placed on the repeater device (12), to the terminal (14). A plurality of such input devices (10) may be placed at various sales counters and customers can simultaneously input the information and the data into the respective input devices (10) for subsequent transmission to the terminal (14) for use in processing the respective transactions.</p> |
